Western Slope 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles California

Western Slope 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles California

For a long time, California’s Paso Robles was overlooked by the wine drinking community, and overshadowed by other, more famous northern California regions. In recent years, though, Paso Robles has had a viticultural renaissance due to the community’s slow realization of the powerful and unique effect the region’s unique climate has on its grapes.

While Paso Robles’ immediate surroundings are far too hot for wine grapes of any variety, low channels from the coast blow cooling maritime air over the vineyards. The mixture of these cooling breezes with thick heat produce juicy, ripe fruit perfect for teasing out the complexity of Cabernet grapes.

The Western Slope 2014 is a perfect example of the region’s excellence and distinctive quality, and was honored with a silver medal at the 2017 Winemaker Challenge International Wine Competition. In the mouth, bright red fruits dominate, with subtle notes of licorice, walnut, and mushroom that follow. Lush, velvety tannins round out the wine giving it a long, lasting finish that will leave you wanting, at least, a second glass.
