Trailstone 2019 Pinot Gris Columbia Valley, Washington

Trailstone 2019 Pinot Gris Columbia Valley, Washington

The Columbia Valley in Washington is nestled in the central part of the state and sits in the rain shadow of the Cascade Mountains. This location creates an environment that is more desert-like than the wet and gray reputation that the Pacific Northwest typically boasts. With bright sunny days and cooler temperatures at night, the region is considered one of the premier wine-growing appellations in the US. Varietals that thrive in drier climates do incredibly well here—thanks to warm days, fruit can fully ripen, but cooler evenings give ample time to develop natural acidity and concentrated flavors. Our 2019 Trailstone Pinot Gris is surprisingly complex. Winemaking chose to ferment fruit at cold temperatures to preserve freshness and allow an aromatic intensity to come out. Along with beautiful aromas, bold acidity also is present and makes the tastebuds water. Fresh and crisp fruit flavors are complemented by a wet stone minerality.
