Thistle & Quail 2019 Pinot Grigio Russian River Valley, California
The Russian River Valley climate in Sonoma County is made for growing cooler-climate grapes. The region receives heavy influence from the Russian River, which carries waters inland from the chilly Pacific Ocean. A heavy fog veil lies in the valley in the mornings during the growing season and burns off mid-day, giving fruit a chance to bask in the sunshine and fully develop concentrated but approachable flavors. Our Pinot Grigio is light in body and beautiful when sipped. During harvest, it was pressed gently in whole clusters and fermented in stainless steel tanks to maximize contact on the lees. Because of this aging process, the light body showcases a roundness in the mouth that makes you go back for glass after glass! Classic flavors of green tree fruits and bright stone fruits meld together and are complemented by a slight acidity—a perfect bottle for weekend afternoons on the patio.
