Winemakers disagree completely, and unanimously agree that the movie got it all wrong. Merlot is a beautiful varietal known for its full-bodied texture and soft fruit profile. It is celebrated in Bordeaux as a noble grape but also thrives in California. With a continental climate of warm sunny days and cooler temperatures at night, California’s vast terroirs are idyllic for grape growing. The majority of the rainfall occurs outside of the growing season, but also can cool down the heat spikes that often occur just after bud break in the spring.
