Mosaico 2015 Old Vine Grenache Campo de Borja Spain

Mosaico 2015 Old Vine Grenache Campo de Borja Spain

We're incredibly proud of this wine. Not only has it consistently been a member-favorite (and favorite around the office)—it's also been a hit with judges. Mosaico 2015 has already taken gold in the first two competitions it was entered into, the 2016 Harvest Challenge and the 2017 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Available exclusively through Firstleaf, you'll want to make sure to include a bottle of this in your next shipment. Due to the rarity of old vine grapes, we were only able to make a small batch of this wine, so if you don't get it now you might not be able to get it again until the 2016 vintage is ready!

Grenache is a quintessentially Spanish wine. Cultivated in a hot, dry climate, the hardy Grenache grape thrives where other wines wither. That hardiness was essential in centuries past, allowing the art of winemaking to survive in Spain even when it was forbid under Muslim Moorish rule. Protecting their secrets of cultivation, when Spanish independence was restored so too was the winemaker’s art, an art that is celebrated to this day.

The Mosaico 2015 Old Vine Grenache from Campo de Borja Spain is a perfect example of that tradition. As an Old Vine Grenache, the grapes come from vines that have been harvested for many decades. Old vines grow less grapes, but those that they do produce get a larger share of the nutrients and sunlight than those from young vines. While the yield is lower, restraining the quantity that can be produced in any one batch, the quality than makes up for it. Old vine grapes have a lush, dense fruitfulness that grapes from younger vines can't compete with.

This wine shows why such vines are so highly prized. Bursting with red fruity flavors of raspberry and cherry and accented with a hint of spice, this is wine of truly remarkable and singular depth.
