Dr. Fischer 2014 Riesling Mosel VDP, Germany
Riesling from this region is all about terroir. Estate-grown in the younger parcels of two Grosse Lage vineyards: Bockstein and Saarburger, both known as top vineyards in the Mosel thanks to their exceptional terroir (steep slope, south/southwest exposure, old vines, slate soil). The two vineyards have a different color of slate which affects the characteristics of the wine: The Bockstein vineyard is made of grey slate which gives soft, round, floral character in the wine. The Saarburger vineyard is made of red slate which produces wine that is more steely and sharper.
